We came now upon still higher ground, and had soon upon our left a large village, about half an hour distant, named Yaron while another called Maron was on a higher hill at about the same distance on our right. Just beyond these, at 4 o’clock, we saw on the left, near the road, a very large sarcophagus, lying here in utter loneliness. It is of limestone, plainly hewn, and measures eight feet in length by four and a half feet in breadth and height. The lid is thrown off, and measures two feet thick ; the upper side is slanted off like a double roof; the ends resemble a pediment. Scattered around it are columns and fragments of columns of moderate size. It would seem as if the sarcophagus had stood originally on or near this spot, with a small temple over it ; forming a solitary tomb, not unlike that of Hiram nearer Tyre
